In 1603 the Duke Giovanni Sagredo built a fountain in the NW corner of the 3^rd in row Loggia construction, to which he drove, as he mentions in a report, the waters of a spring discovered near the city, with clay pipes, discovered under the sidewalk pavement in front of St. Marc and Loggia. Over the fountain he placed a slab in a high relief depicting a female figure inside an arched conch, which is embedded today on the northern wall of the Loggia (it was discovered near the church of St. John the Baptist). Sagredo planned to expand the aqueduct down to the arsenals, but this work was executed by his successor Giovanni Battista Michael. Nevertheless the water was not of a good quality. For this reason, when the Morosini aqueduct was constructed, the Sagredo fountain, which was probably rebuilt along with the fourth Loggia, and the fountain of the Mole were connected to it. The actual form of the fountain is a result of a restoration conducted by the Instituto Veneto in the early 20ies.
