ROCCA A MARE, KOULES - THE MARINE FORTRESS OF HERAKLION: Video about the history of the monument and recent restoration works
LA THERESE SHIPWRECK: Short film from documentary by Jacques Cousteau "Lost relics of the sea" which presents the exploration and partial excavation of the French shipwreck rear admirals flag ship La Therésè. The shipwreck was caused by an explosion which took place in La Therese’s powder magazine of the ship, which marked the end of the multiannual Cretan War (1645-1669) leading to the surrender of Candia to the Ottomans. The shipwreck was identified in 1976 during the investigation which was conducted by the legendary French researcher with the Ministry of Culture and Science.
UNDERWATER EXCAVATION in ST. GEORGIOS, COVE OF DHIA: Short film from documentary by Jacques Cousteau "Calypso’s search for Atlantis pt.I" which presents the underwater excavation in St. Georgios, cove of Dhia. The underwater excavation was conducted by the pioneer Cretan archaeologist Charalabos Kritzas, demonstrated that the cove of St. Georgios operated as a port from modern to Minoan period. The investigation was conducted by the legendary French researcher with the Ministry of Culture and Science in 1976.
VENECIAN SHIPWRECK: Short film from documentary by Jacques Cousteau "Lost relics of the sea" which presents the excavation and the recovery of a venetian shipwreck (16th-17th century) which carried architectural members apparently served as ballast to stabilize the ship. The shipwreck was identified and explored in the island of Dhia in 1976 during the investigation which was conducted by the legendary French researcher with the Ministry of Culture and Science.
CRETE PROJECT 2011: UNDERWATER ARCHAEOLOGICAL SURVEY AT THE AREA OFF HERAKLION AND DHIA ISLAND: Short film presenting the underwater archaeological survey conducted in 2011 by the Ephorate of Underwater Antiquities (Ministry of Culture - Greece) supported by Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution (USA) and the Hellenic Institute of Marine Research (Greece). Among others the film depicts the survey at Shipwreck IV that was first located and excavated in 1976 by Jacques Yves Cousteau supervised by Greek archaeologists. The cargo was mainly consisted by Rhodian amphorae of the 1st – 2nd c. AD.
